Colour Stability

High-quality pigments help keep your render looking vibrant without relying on a separate paint finish.

Built for UK Weather

Water-repellent and flexible to cope with driving rain, frost and everyday temperature changes.

How Silicone Rendering Works

Silicone rendering is a high-performance thin-coat render system applied over a prepared base. It provides a durable, breathable and water-repellent finish, making it a popular choice for external walls where a neat, low-maintenance appearance is required.

  • Basecoat with mesh: A polymer-modified basecoat is applied with alkali-resistant reinforcing mesh embedded within it to provide strength and help resist cracking.
  • Primer (where required): A compatible primer may be applied over the prepared basecoat to improve adhesion and help create an even, consistent finish.
  • Silicone finish coat: A textured silicone topcoat is applied to provide a breathable, weather-resistant and low-maintenance final finish.

Key Benefits of Silicone Render

Breathable

Allows moisture vapour to escape from walls, helping to reduce trapped moisture and related damage.

Water-repellent

Repels rain and helps limit water penetration while maintaining vapour permeability.

Flexible

Accommodates minor natural movement and helps reduce the risk of surface cracking.

Long-lasting finish

Durable, colour-stable and designed as a low-maintenance exterior finish for years to come.

Silicone render explained

What is Silicone Render?

Silicone render is a modern thin-coat exterior render system with a pre-coloured silicone-resin finish. It is normally installed over a properly prepared basecoat reinforced with fibreglass mesh, creating a finished surface that is flexible, breathable and water-repellent.

Because the colour is part of the finish coat, there is no separate masonry-paint stage. The result is a consistent, fine-textured exterior finish available in a wide range of colours.

Compare the options

Silicone Render vs Monocouche

Both are coloured exterior render systems, but they have different build-ups, finishes and strengths.

Monocouche render

Durable, through-coloured & scraped

  • Mineral/cement-based render
  • Typically a thicker build-up
  • Characteristic scraped-texture finish
  • Commonly used on clean masonry, extensions and new work
Silicone render

Flexible, fine-textured & low maintenance

  • Thin-coat polymer finish
  • Breathable and water-repellent
  • More flexible than traditional cement-based finishes
  • Particularly useful for many refurbishment projects

Which is better? There is no universal winner. The substrate, existing wall condition, exposure and the finish you prefer should determine the system.

Expert advice

Is Silicone Render Right for Your Property?

Silicone render is a premium wall finish that combines a clean modern appearance with flexibility, breathability and water repellence. It is particularly well suited to homes exposed to harsh weather, or where a low-maintenance, through-coloured finish is preferred.

Whether you are upgrading an older home, finishing an extension or planning a full exterior refurbishment, we can assess the substrate and recommend whether silicone is the right system. If you are still comparing finishes, see our guide to silicone render vs monocouche render.

  • Highly breathable and water-repellent
  • Helps resist algae, mould and surface staining
  • Flexible and crack-resistant
  • Wide choice of colours and textures
  • Backed by careful preparation and expert application
Common questions

Silicone Rendering FAQs

Can silicone render go over existing render?

Sometimes. The existing render must be sound, well bonded and suitable to receive the new system. Loose, hollow or badly cracked areas normally need repairing or removing first. We inspect the walls before recommending the build-up.

How long does silicone render last?

A correctly specified and installed silicone render system is designed for a long service life. The exact lifespan depends on the substrate, exposure, detailing, installation quality and maintenance, so we assess the property rather than promising a fixed number of years.

Is silicone render breathable?

Yes. Silicone render is vapour permeable, so moisture vapour can pass out through the wall while the outer finish remains water repellent. That combination is one of the main reasons it is chosen for modern exterior upgrades.

Does silicone render need repainting?

Silicone render is through-coloured, so routine repainting is not normally needed to maintain the original finish. It can be recoated later if you want to refresh or change the colour, provided the correct compatible coating and preparation are used.

How much does silicone rendering cost?

Cost depends on the wall area, access and scaffolding, how much preparation or repair is needed, the chosen system and the detailing around windows, doors and rooflines. We provide a free quotation after reviewing the property and scope of work.

Can silicone render be applied in winter?

It can be installed during suitable winter weather, but application is temperature and weather dependent. We follow the system manufacturer's conditions and avoid applying when frost, heavy rain or unsuitable temperatures could affect curing and the finished result.
